Scotland Wedding Venues: The Complete Guide
269 real wedding venues across Scotland. Castles, barns, city chambers and tiny elopement spots. Picked and kept up to date by Steven Mitchell, a documentary wedding photographer based in Glasgow.
No venue on this list pays to be featured, and none get a say over what is written here.
Some couples want a big room and three hundred guests. Others just want the two of them and a registrar. This guide has both, and everything in between. Small wedding venues, elopement spots, castles, barns, and city register offices, all across Scotland.
Not every couple wants a big guest list and all the attention that comes with it. Introverts, camera-shy couples, people who just want it to feel small and real. This guide covers those days too. Look for the Quiet tag.
Not sure where to start? This list has grown a lot. If the choice feels like a lot to take in, read How to Choose a Wedding Venue: A Practical Guide for Couples first, then use the search and filters below to narrow it down.
Not every venue makes this list. Scotland has some of the most relaxed marriage laws in the world, so you can legally marry almost anywhere, as long as your registrar or celebrant agrees to the spot. Read the full breakdown in Getting Married in Scotland: Yes, You Can Legally Marry Anywhere.
If you are planning a Highland or Skye elopement somewhere off this list, get in touch. I would love to help.

Scotland wedding venue questions
How much does a wedding venue cost in Scotland?
Prices vary a lot. A simple register office ceremony can cost under £100. A barn or country house wedding is often £5,000 to £15,000 for the venue alone. An exclusive-use castle can run £20,000 or more before catering. My guide to setting a wedding budget has more detail.
Can you get married anywhere in Scotland?
Yes. Scotland has some of the most relaxed marriage laws in the world. You can marry almost anywhere, indoors or outdoors, as long as your registrar or celebrant agrees to the location. Read more in Getting Married in Scotland.
What is the best time of year to get married in Scotland?
May, June and September tend to have the most stable weather. Spring and autumn also bring softer light and fewer crowds at popular venues. There is no wrong time of year.
What is the difference between an elopement and a micro wedding?
An elopement is usually just the couple, sometimes with a witness or two. A micro wedding is a small but proper wedding, usually under 30 guests. Both suit couples who want less fuss and more time with each other.
What are the best small wedding venues in Scotland?
Register offices, walled gardens and small chapels are often the best starting point. Filter this guide by the Quiet tag, or by a guest count under 30, to see the smallest options in every region.
How do I compare wedding venues fairly?
Get the full list of what is included before you compare prices: chairs, tables, linen, catering, bar staff, hours, and cleanup. Two venues at the same headline price can end up very different once you add the missing pieces. Ask for a full quote, not just the hire fee, before you compare.
Built & kept up to date by Steven Mitchell
I am a documentary wedding photographer based in Glasgow. I work with couples across Scotland, including elopements on Skye. Most of my clients are introverts, empaths, or just camera-shy. People who would rather live their wedding day than perform it for a camera.
I built this guide because couples kept asking me the same question: where do we even start looking? It is free, and I keep adding to it. If you spot a venue that should be here, or you book somewhere on this list and want a photographer who will let you actually be in your own day, I would love to hear from you.
Steven
A quick note on how this list works: venues come from a mix of publicly available directories and direct requests from venues. No venue pays to be featured, and none have editorial input over what’s written here, beyond flagging a factual error in their own listing. This is not a complete list of every wedding venue in Scotland; it is a working list that I add to as I find good venues. Details are gathered from public sources and each venue’s own website, so always confirm pricing, capacity and availability directly with the venue before booking. If a detail is out of date, or you know a venue that should be here, let me know and I will fix it. Run a venue and want to be considered for the list? Drop me an email.
