Wedding Venues in Glasgow & the West of Scotland
Glasgow and the west of Scotland cover a lot of ground: a working city, Loch Lomond, and the towns of Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire in between. If you’re searching for wedding venues in Glasgow and the west, this is where to start.
I’m based just outside Glasgow, in East Kilbride, so this is my home patch. I know these venues well, and I’ve photographed weddings at more than a few of them.
Quick note before the list: what follows is a shortlist. My Scotland wedding venue guide has all 36, searchable by guest count, budget and style, and I keep it updated as I find new ones.
Wedding Venues in Glasgow Itself
The city has converted churches, banking halls and civic buildings, all within a short taxi ride of each other. Glasgow City Chambers, in the Merchant City, is the classic quick, low-key legal wedding. A few streets over, The Corinthian Club turns a vaulted Victorian bank into a glass-domed events venue, and Trades Hall of Glasgow has been run by the city’s Incorporated Trades since 1794.
In the West End, Òran Mór is a former parish church opposite the Botanic Gardens, painted inside by Alasdair Gray. Out at Bellahouston Park, House for an Art Lover was built to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s own competition designs, and in Pollokshields, Sherbrooke Castle Hotel takes just one wedding a day.
Loch Lomond and the Towns Around It
Twenty minutes west of the city, Loch Lomond adds castles and lochside barns. Cameron House is the five-star resort option, with its own walled garden and a loch-view suite. Boturich Castle, at Alexandria, is the only privately owned estate inside the National Park, with a glass-sided pavilion built out over the water. Ardoch, near Arden, keeps things smaller around a contemporary barn on its own 133 acres.
Killearn, at the edge of the Trossachs, has a fully accessible village hall built for weddings, with its own outdoor Glebe area for a ceremony.
Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire
Lanarkshire has Chatelherault, one of my own favourite small venues to shoot, a Georgian hunting lodge on a hilltop above Hamilton. Nearby, Shieldhill Castle has 12th-century roots and a private chapel that’s picked up multiple Scottish Wedding Awards, and Crossbasket Castle pairs a Grand Roosevelt Ballroom with riverside grounds. New Lanark Mill Hotel sits inside the whole UNESCO World Heritage mill village on the Falls of Clyde.
Renfrewshire adds Paisley, where Coats Paisley turned a Victorian church into a 200-guest nave, and Paisley Town Hall looks straight out at Paisley Abbey. Johnstone Town Hall has its own marriage room overlooking the town square, and Gourock, on the Inverclyde coast, adds seafront council halls with sea views thrown in.
A Big Day or a Quiet One
For something small and simple, Glasgow City Chambers or Glasgow Botanic Gardens’ Kibble Palace keep things low-key, both ceremony-only. If you want scale, voco Grand Central Hotel takes up to 360 guests inside the old station hotel, and Ingliston Estate, near Glasgow Airport, can stretch to 500 with a marquee.
